Umlaut is a network of European musicians in the field of improvised / experimental / contemporary music with the purpose to amplify the creative progress around us.
They host the annual festivals in Paris, Berlin and Dala-Floda (Sweden), the Umlaut concert series and the independent label Umlaut Records.
Umlaut Berlin is an initiative by Hannes Lingens, Pierre Borel and Florian Bergmann, which became, through their continuous work during the last years, a visible part of Berlin cultural life. The excellent and diverse program of the Berlin Umlaut Festivals is meant to raise interest in contemporary music. Another important part is the collaboration with performing and visual artists.
Umlaut Berlin was funded by the Impuls Fonds for contemporary music, the Deutscher Musikrat, the Berliner Kultursenat and Pro Helvetia.
